A group of McKinney and Plano high school students visited the company’s McKinney facility last week for tours and projects related to math, science and engineering.

Brian Raaum, Raytheon director of engineering, explained to the students the day’s events before one group commenced on a tour of the part of the facility where test antennas are built. Another group started on its reverse engineering project: taking apart a disposable camera and writing instructions on how to put it back together.

The groups switched, and the one with the fewest corrections to the instructions won.

Engineers Week is a way to get students interested in pursuing advanced math and science education and ultimately careers in those fields, in hopes of cultivating the next generation of engineers.
